– Marcel Proust

Mindfulness-based
Stress Reduction (MBSR)

MBSR was developed by Dr. Jon Kabat-Zinn at the Stress Reduction Clinic at the University of Massachusetts Medical School in the US in 1979, for stress reduction and as a supplementary intervention to various medical treatments. Scientific research in the past decades suggest that MBSR can positively affect participants' lives. The programme is effective in reducing stress, depression, anxiety, burnout and various medical symptoms, improving sleep and chronic pain, as well as enhancing our immune function and happiness. MBSR is one of the most scientifically researched mindfulness programmes.

MBSR is for people who

  • are suffering from stress, chronic fatigue, sleep problems, pain or other medical conditions;

  • are always tensed, anxious and depressed; and

  • are willing to take better care of themselves and learn how to live with ease.

2-hour orientation talk
8 weekly sessions, 2.5 hours each (plus daily home practice of around 45 mins)
7-hour all-day silent retreat

Mindfulness-based
Cognitive Therapy (MBCT)

MBCT was developed by three psychologists and experts in cognitive therapy, Zindel Segal, Mark Williams and John Teasdale, based on MBSR. It combines some elements of cognitive therapy with mindfulness practices and attitudes. MBCT is originally designed to help people who suffer repeated bouts of depression. MBCT is recommended by the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE) in UK as an effective intervention for the prevention of depression relapse. The programme is also found to be effective for people with chronic anxiety and other emotional issues. MBCT is one of the most scientifically researched mindfulness programmes.

MBCT is for people who

  • are suffering from stress, sleep problems or chronic fatigue;

  • are always disturbed by tension, anxiety, depression or other emotions;

  • has suffered from one or more depressive episodes and would like to learn ways to prevent relapse;

  • willing to take better care of themselves and learn how to live with ease.
